Creative asset safe area, in pixels
Updated
The specifications page tells you to keep important content inside the safe area, but it doesn't say where the safe area is. The numbers only exist inside the official Photoshop and Figma templates, so developers end up measuring them by hand and getting different answers.
Here they are, measured from the official templates. Every number on this page comes from the same file storeheader uses to draw the safe area in the editor.

How much of each image is safe
- Product page header: 1646 x 661 pixels, which is 43% of the width, 40% of the height and about 17% of the image.
- Search results, at the maximum size: 2168 x 1030 pixels, which is 56% of the width, 40% of the height and about 23% of the image.
- Universal: 1402 x 962 pixels, which is 27% of the width, 33% of the height and about 9% of the image. It sits above the vertical center, not in the middle.
What actually gets cropped
One image serves every iPhone and iPad in every orientation, so each device shows a different part of it. The safe area is the part every device keeps. Apple doesn't publish the crop for each device; the Preview in App Store Connect is the only exact answer.
Early, unofficial measurements from developers with approved assets suggest that on iPhone in portrait the header keeps its full height and loses roughly 8% on each side, with the back and share buttons drawn over the top corners, while search result images are shown whole. Treat that as a hint and check your own preview, especially on iPad.
Designing around it
- Put text, your logo and the focal point inside the safe area. Let backgrounds and decoration run to the edges.
- Keep the top corners of the header free of anything important; system buttons sit there.
- Leave spare room for translations. A headline that fits in English can run outside the safe area in German or Russian.
Questions
- Is the header safe area 1920 x 824 pixels?
- No. The official header template marks 1646 x 661 pixels, starting 1097 pixels from the left and 493 from the top. That's about 43% of the width, which is where the "about 43%" figure comes from.
- Why is the safe area so small?
- It has to fit the narrowest crop of the widest image across every device and orientation. Most devices show more than the safe area, but only the safe area is guaranteed.
- Does storeheader show the safe area?
- Yes. The editor draws it over every preview and warns you when text runs outside it, in every language you add.
